Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport – a true city-shaping milestone

01 Jun 2020
The Western Sydney Airport’s metro line is tangible proof that working together can achieve landmark city-shaping outcomes.

The collaboration efforts span three levels of government; federal, state and eight local councils, who are all partnering to deliver the first stage of one of the most important pieces of infrastructure in Western Sydney’s history. This momentous city-shaping effort illustrates that working together, showing leadership and strategy delivers results.

Today's announcement achieves the first commitment of the Western Sydney City Deal – delivering rail to the Western Parkland City. The Greater Sydney Commission played a pivotal role in the creation of the Deal and its coordination of land use and infrastructure. It also supports a number of initiatives outlined in the Commission’s Western City District Plan, laying the foundation for the Western Parkland City to become a global city.

The Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport is groundbreaking infrastructure for Australia’s first 22nd century city. It will be a critical enabler of  the Commission’s vision for a true metropolis of three cities, completing the circle and connecting the West to the Central River City and Eastern Harbour City. It will create the spine of the Western Parkland City and play a vital role in bringing people closer to job opportunities, health, education and leisure activities. Greater transport access for Western Sydney means shorter travel times, less reliance on cars and less congestion on roads.
